Former Manchester City and Wrexham goalkeeper Steve Fleet has passed away at the age of 87 following a battle with cancer.

Another of his former clubs, Stockport County, announced the news of his death on Wednesday.

Fleet, born in Salford, began his footballing journey as a schoolboy with Bolton Wanderers before signing as an amateur with Man City in 1953.

His career then saw him play for Wrexham and later Stockport, where he was part of the squad that won the Fourth Division title in 1967.

After a brief return to City, he finished his playing days with Altrincham before transitioning into coaching.
