Declan Rice shouldn't be judged on his £105M price tag before Arsenal's season has even started because he will add much-needed bite to Mikel Arteta's midfield

Strong start to the season from Roy Keane, the game’s grumpiest pundit who was gunning for Arsenal’s £105million man Declan Rice before a ball had even been kicked at Wembley Stadium.

‘They’ve obviously paid way to much for him,’ Keane said pitch-side on ITV. ‘He’s not worth over £100m.’ To Arsenal, he is, though let us at least give this 24-year-old the time to show his value.

Rice did not show the best version of himself in this Community Shield – he will need to get used to his new position of playing on the left of a midfield three – but there were glimpses of the physicality that he will add to a previously soft underbelly which was costly.
