Chelsea and Manchester City target Virgil van Dijk steps up recovery from ankle injury on anti-gravity treadmill as he continues bid to return for Southampton before end of season

Virgil van Dijk has handed Southampton a major boost ahead of their run in after posting a video of him running as he looks to speed up his return from injury.

The Dutch international posted a clip on Instagram of himself jogging on an anti-gravity AlterG treadmill, along with the message 'stepping up' as he looked to continue his comeback from ankle ligament damage.

The machine uses NASA technology to allow users to reduce the impact of gravity by selecting anywhere between 20 and 100 per cent of their own body weight, which makes it ideal for helping patients recovering from joint surgery and problems.
