Yaya Toure has accepted a charge of drink driving, but insists that he did not 'intentionally consume alcohol'.
Toure, 33, apologised for his actions after he was stopped by police at around 11pm on November 28 in Dagenham.
Police confirmed that Toure, of Macclesfield, was arrested and then charged the following day.
The Manchester City midfielder is a devout Muslim and does not drink because of his religious beliefs.In 2012, he turned down a man-of-the-match bottle of champagne, citing his religious belief as a reason.
The former Barcelona player released a statement on Tuesday morning.
