With Les Miles as coach, LSU won’t compete for another national title

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Economists speak of the point of diminishing returns, when a yield rate fails to increase proportionally to investments. LSU football has reached that point with Les Miles, and Saturday’s 16-14 loss to Wisconsin is further evidence.

That certainly should not diminish all that Miles has accomplished during his 11-plus years in Baton Rouge. The résumé has secured his spot among the SEC’s top all-time coaches: A national title, two SEC titles and an average of 10 wins per season is sparkling. In addition, Miles has represented the university and state with class and dignity through trying times, such as Hurricane Katrina and the devastating floods and tragic police shooting in Baton Rouge this summer.
