BATON ROUGE, La. — Once Lane Kiffin, long rumored to be LSU’s top offensive coordinator target, took the coaching job at Florida Atlantic, Ed Orgeron quickly turned his attention to Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
In 2016, his first season guiding the Panthers’ offense, Canada, 44, has overseen an attack that averages 42.3 points per game — two touchdowns better than its 2015 clip. For his efforts, Canada was the only offensive coordinator named as a finalist for the Broyles Award, given to college football’s top assistant.
Versatility may be one of Canada’s most impressive attributes as a playcaller.
