BATON ROUGE, La. – With LSU leading 23-6 late in the third quarter Saturday night and facing a third-and-11 from its 6-yard line, quarterback Danny Etling dropped back to pass. When nothing came open, he scrambled for 8 yards and LSU punted.
While it may seem inconsequential, that sequence illustrates the biggest change in LSU’s offense with Etling under center: trust. Les Miles and Cam Cameron routinely placed their faith in Etling to make smart decisions with the football, and it showed early and often with a more diverse game plan against Mississippi State in the Tigers’ SEC opener.
