Tyler Shelvin ruling could leave LSU needing more at nose tackle

LSU has a freshmen class that coach Ed Oregon says is one of the best he's been around. But one of the better players in the class will not play this season.

With freshman Tyler Shelvin declared as a partial qualifier and ineligible for the season, LSU will rely on a rotation of fifth-year senior Greg Gilmore and sophomore Ed Alexander at nose tackle.

But not having Shelvin will leave the Tigers with little depth at that spot.

"Obviously we have other guys that have played nose tackle on the line," Orgeron said Saturday. "We're heavy at (defensive) end, so if we have to move somebody in emergency we could do that.
