Music fans were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Gainesville, Florida native Tom Petty last week. As a tribute to his unexpected passing, the Florida Gators played Petty's song "I Won't Back Down" before the start of the fourth quarter of Saturday's home game against the LSU Tigers.

The crowd joined together to sing Petty's song. Before he was famous, Petty once worked as a groundskeeper at UF. On UF's website, a statement announcing the plan for the tribute also mentioned that the school might look to adopt playing Petty's song as a new tradition.
