The announcement barely created a ripple when it moved across newswires last week, but rest assured that it allowed NCAA football video personnel to breathe a sigh of relief. College football programs will not begin using electronic devices in the coaches' booth and locker room this fall.
Instead, the NCAA has delayed implementing in-game video technology until 2017. The extra year will give schools time to properly wire their stadiums and purchase the software and equipment necessary for coaches to instantly review in-game video in the press box and locker room.
"If there's a rule in place that allows us to use technology, I'm going to figure out every avenue that we can to make it as efficient and as useful for our coaches so it becomes a tool, not a hindrance," LSU video coordinator Doug Aucoin said.
