Veterinarians have said that Mike the Tiger’s cancer has spread and that LSU’s mascot has only a short time left to live.

LSU’s veterinary department said in a Wednesday news conference that Mike will live only one to two months longer.

David Baker, the attending veterinarian at LSU, said a CT scan showed that Mike’s cancer had not only resumed growing but also had spread to other locations. Baker said the tiger will be euthanized before he succumbs to the cancer.

“We will not allow Mike to suffer,” Baker said.

The tiger was diagnosed in May with spindle cell sarcoma, a very rare and malignant form of cancer.
