Lamar scored nine runs with two outs, taking advantage of a rough night by LSU pitching on Wednesday as the Cardinals rallied from eight runs down to claim an 12-11 victory at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The No. 5/6-ranked Tigers suffered their first loss of the season despite 12 hits and clutch hitting and control problems by every pitcher except the final one of the game was a major culprit.
LSU (3-1) issued eight walks and hit four batters and six of those dozen passes turned into runs.
Even with all the wobbly pitching, Tigers' freshman Caleb Gilbert was razor-close to keeping his club in front in the 8th inning before one pitch came back and bit him.
