Weeks later, Mainieri said he thought the call on the field was “correct” but said he wished it wouldn’t have been called considering it didn’t change the play.
“On the slide itself, when I had a chance to look at it, I can see why the umpire called it,” Mainieri said. “I think it was the correct call. Do I think it should have been called in that moment of the game and did it really have an outcome on the effect of the play?
