Looking for Ed Orgeron at the Phenix City (Ala.) Mayor’s Ball? Sorry. The LSU coach has had to drop out of the weekend event because of an NCAA rule.
The NCAA forced Orgeron to bow out of Saturday’s event, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported Wednesday.
Instead, former LSU defensive tackle and current SEC Network analyst Booger McFarland will take Orgeron’s place.
The problem? Recruiting regulations.
“Because we have ‘education’ in our name and we give scholarships, they said he could not go and speak,” Phenix City mayor Eddie Lowe said. “In their view, they think it’s a platform for recruiting, so they will not allow him to do it.
