Junior Jared Poche fired seven scoreless innings to lead sixth-ranked LSU to a 12-1 victory over Fordham in the opening game of the series Friday evening at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
Poche improved to 2-0 on the season and earned his 20th career victory. Fordham's Greg Weissert was charged with his first loss of the season after giving up four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
The Tigers are now 7-2 on the season, while the Rams dropped to 3-5. LSU and Fordham return to the diamond Saturday for a doubleheader to wrap up the series at 2 p.
