The school announced in January that the tiger habitat would begin renovations in April to become an accredited tiger sanctuary. It is scheduled to be completed in August, at which point the school hopes to have selected the new tiger who will become Mike VII.
Unlike with past live tiger mascots, Mike VII will not be rolled out into a cage and placed on the sideline during home LSU football games in Tiger Stadium.
