LSU's pitching and defense made sure some early help from Northwestern State held up Tuesday until its offense finally struck in the later innings.
The No. 8 Tigers (37-16) claimed three first-inning runs on four bases-on-balls, one hit batter and one base hit against the visiting Demons (30-22) and never relinquished that lead.
LSU added four runs in its final two at-bats — one in the seventh and three in the eighth — to claim a ninth straight victory, 7-2, heading into a weekend series with No. 1 Florida.
"We didn't play awesome, awesome, awesome," coach Paul Mainieri said.
