LSU starts strong at Alabama; Alex Lange fans 10 to win series opener

Given an early lead, Alex Lange did the rest for LSU in a 8-2 victory Thursday at Alabama.

The junior right-hander struck out 10 and walked one over 7-1/3 innings, throwing 112 pitches and allowing eight hits. He gave up a two-run home run in the second inning and faced little trouble until the seventh.

Alabama loaded the bases in the seventh but came away with nothing, as Lange got the final hitter to fly out to right. After the home run in the second, Lange retired 13 of the next 15 hitters, with eight of those outs coming on strikeouts.
