OMAHA, Neb. -- An early indicator that Paul Mainieri would find a spot in the LSU lineup for Zach Watson came in the fall. That's when the coach moved the lifelong shortstop to the outfield.
Playing in a College World Series where the gaps measure 10 feet deeper than at Alex Box Stadium, the speedy Watson will have more ground to cover when LSU begins playing the eight-team tournament Saturday night against Florida State.
He got his first sense of how things will play at TD Ameritrade Park during the LSU morning practice here.
"It's going to be a lot of ground to cover," Watson said.
