Cole Freeman ate with a couple friends Saturday when he received a text message from LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri.
"You got to step up and fly around and be big for us," the message read. "I responded, 'Yes, sir. I'll get it done tonight,'" Freeman said.
That he did.
Freeman's two-run triple down the line in right put LSU (31-16, 14-9 SEC) ahead in a 5-2 victory that evened a series against South Carolina (27-18, 11-12) ahead of Sunday's 2 p.m. finale at Alex Box Stadium.
The hit was the first of the series for LSU with a runner in scoring position.
