LSU on verge of extending long – really long – receiving drought

Unless LSU’s passing game picks up fast, the Tigers are set to continue an unwelcome streak that few in Baton Rouge could have imagined not long ago.

Three games into the season, the Tigers are on pace for a fourth consecutive season without a wide receiver catching 50 passes. LSU hasn’t seen a four-year span like that since the stretch from 1979-82, which included the conclusion of Charlie McClendon’s run-first tenure as LSU coach as well as the first three years under Jerry Stovall. Eric Martin “broke” the streak in 1983.

That’s a long time ago.
