Late Wednesday evening news broke that former LSU great/MLB free agent Alex Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.
Bregman was the last major free agent in this year’s cycle to sign with a team. His deal includes two opt-outs and deferred money. In addition to Boston and Houston, Bregman was also being courted by the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Bregman was actually drafted by the Red Sox coming out of high school, but he of course spurned the Sox then and enrolled at LSU.
Bregman would go on to be picked second overall by Houston and had an excellent career with the Astros.
