Paul Mainieri went to the mound with two runners on, two outs and the season on the line in a 6-5 eighth inning game against Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament.
He didn't stay long. He went up to LSU pitcher Todd Peterson during a 1-1 count against Hunter Stovall. He said a few words, went back to the dugout and Peterson got the most important out of the year.
Peterson forced a ball up the middle that shortstop Hal Hughes tracked down on the hop and threw across his body to retire Stovall and save the lead.
