What happened in Kentucky could be excused. What happened at Tulane, not quite.
LSU coach Paul Mainieri said the 11 free passes allowed Tuesday at Tulane flummoxed him in a way that was different than the 28 combined walks and hit-by-pitches allowed by his pitchers in a three-game series loss at Kentucky.
Either way, something needs to be fixed.
"It's a real concern," Mainieri said. "It's easy to rationalize it last weekend because Kentucky had such a potent offense in that ballpark with the wind blowing out, you just felt like the pitchers were constantly feeling like they had to make a major-league pitch on every pitch or they were going to get hurt.
