In 1999 I was privileged to join LSU’s Equipment Staff under former Head Equipment Manager Jeff “JB” Boss. Once I worked my way up to full time in 2001, I was assigned to the offensive side of the ball under WR’s coach Stan Hixon – and by proxy – QB’s coach and offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher.
At the time of Saban’s departure in 2004, LSU’s offense had evolved from a run-heavy style under the previous coaching regime to more of a balanced pro-style attack. In the beginning of the Les Miles era, it appeared as though he would try to create his own offensive gumbo: mixing in a pro-style attack and his own ground-and-pound, run heavy philosophy.
