When the Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU football‘s Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the No. 32 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, my first reaction was “this is absolutely perfect”.
It turns out my thought process wasn’t unique.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was hoping Edwards-Helaire would land in Kansas City.
Before the draft, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach texted Mahomes and asked him which skill position player Kansas City should take.
Mahomes simply replied “Clyde”.
Imagine being Edwards-Helaire and having Mahomes, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, saying that he wants you on the team.
