LSU fill-in closer Caleb Gilbert locks down second save in sweep of Georgia

He threw nothing but sliders.

In what turned out to be the biggest at-bat in his three innings of relief over the weekend, fill-in closer Caleb Gilbert locked down the second of two saves in as many games with a game-ending strikeout of cleanup hitter Michael Curry.

He did so with the tying run on third to preserve for LSU a 7-6 Sunday victory at Alex Box Stadium.

"The bottom line for a guy in the ninth inning is it doesn't matter how many you give up," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. "You just got to get the last out before they tie the game or go ahead.
