LSU claims opener vs. Georgia 4-1 with solid pitching & key Kade Scivicque 2B

Winning doesn't have to be pretty. Especially in a league as tough as nails as the SEC is in baseball.

LSU had to wait a little longer but found a way to start a weekend series against Georgia with a 4-1 victory Saturday at Foley Field.

Freshman Alex Lange gritted through a 6-inning performance when he allowed 5 hits but only one run - Bulldogs' leadoff man Nick King opened the bottom of the 1st inning with a home run - and Hunter Newman logged three shutout frames of relief.

The Tigers' lineup produced 10 hits, the biggest coming from Conner Hale with an RBI single in the 1st and Kade Scivicque with a two-run double on a ball that UGa right fielder Skyler Weber had in his glove but lost when he banged into the fence.
