LSU has begun repairs and improvements to the habitat for the next Mike the Tiger, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported.
Friday, construction crews were breaking up concrete in the habitat’s pool; LSU officials plan to have new lining put in. Mike VI, who died in October of cancer, swam in the pool frequently.
LSU said in January that it expected to find a replacement Tiger by August, just before the 2017 football season. But the next Mike the Tiger will not attend home football games, a tradition set by his predecessors.
The university told the Advocate that it planned its search for the next tiger around the current renovations to its habitat.
