After a series sweep of Cincinnati to open the 2016 season, the LSU baseball team dropped its first game of the year Wednesday on the road against the Lamar Cardinals by a score of 12-11.
The Tigers took a slim lead into the late innings, only to allow the game to slip out of their hands. The Cardinals trailed 10-11 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, but loaded the bases with no outs before freshman right-handed reliever Caleb Gilbert took the mound for LSU.
After retiring the first two batters he faced on strikes, Gilbert surrendered a two-run single to third baseman Robin Adames.
