Johnny Jones: LSU played 'best 40 minutes' of season against Houston

LSU coach Johnny Jones has been preaching defense for the entire offseason.

Throughout the lead up to the 2016-17 season, Jones said the team needed to improve on the defensive end in order to take the next step.

Tuesday night's 84-65 home win over Houston was a perfect example.

LSU (5-2) stifled a Cougars offense that entered averaging 85.2 points and shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and 45.7 percent from deep (43-of-94) in their first five games.

The Tigers held Houston (5-1) to 40.4 percent shooting, 29.4 percent from deep and just nine total rebounds in the second half.
