Alabama’s Mark Ingram in 2009, Auburn’s Cam Newton in ’10 and Florida State’s Jameis Winston in ’13 followed up their Heisman-winning campaigns by starring in national title games. Oregon’s Marcus Mariota fell short last year; he and the Ducks won their bowl game, which doubled as a national semifinal, but lost in the national title game.
Interestingly, while six consecutive Heisman winners have won their bowl games, that came on the heels of a nine-season stretch in which seven Heisman winners lost in their bowl games – – and six of those came in national-title appearances.
Here is a look at how all the Heisman winners have fared in their postseason games since the award was introduced in 1935.
