Earlier this summer, LSU football lost a key commitment from a 2022 five-star recruit.
Defensive back Jacoby Mathews, 6-foot-2/205 lbs from Ponchatoula, LA, committed to the Tigers in April.
He decommitted on July 30, not long after he took a visit to Texas A&M.
Mathews is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 safety in the country and the No. 3 player in Louisiana. He’s also rated as the No. 27 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

While losing a commitment from Mathews wasn’t ideal — he’s easily one of LSU’s top 2022 recruiting targets — it’s not the end of the world, either.
