San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem before the preseason game vs. the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night instead of sitting down.
His 49ers teammate and former LSU safety Eric Reid knelt beside Kaepernick.
After the game, Reid explained to the media Kaepernick wanted to be more respectful to the national anthem while still supporting his cause.
"I talked to him today before the game. We were wondering of a way, people said that it was disrespectful for him to sit down, so he was able to decide what if we took a knee instead of sitting?
