LSU coach Ed Orgeron recently revealed the secret to the weight loss of Tyler Shelvin, a five-star defensive tackle signee.
“I told his grandma, ‘Start feeding him gumbo with no rice,'” Orgeron said with a smile Monday during an appearance in Lafayette for the latest leg of his speaking tour. “He called me and said, ‘Coach, you’re killing me. I need more rice.’ But his trainer got him down to 325. I’m most proud of Tyler for that and I think he’s going to be an excellent player for us.”

Orgeron compared Shelvin to former LSU All-America defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, who was vital during the Tigers’ 2007 national championship and who won the Outland, Nagurski, Lombari and Lott awards before being selected No.
