It’s a rarity in college sports for a school to have the potential for a national title contender on both the gridiron and the hardwood.
The last school to capture both a football and basketball championship in the same academic year was the University Florida, who in 2007 followed up a BCS National Championship in January by winning the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in April.
What puts both teams at LSU in title contention is that they possess an intriguing combination of veteran experience and an abundance of young talent. Although significant players from last year such as Kwon Alexander, La’el Collins, Jordan Mickey and Jarell Martin have gone onto the next level in their respective sports, the Tigers are prepared to thrust themselves into the national championship conversation in both football and basketball.
