The Blind River Bar, a popular waterside pit stop in Livingston Parish, was destroyed Friday in an early morning fire in an isolated section of swampland west of Lake Maurepas and north of I-10, firefighters said.
Volunteer firefighters from Livingston and Ascension parishes had to battle the blaze with special firefighting boats that draw water from river, St. Amant Fire Chief James LeBlanc said.
"The fire is out at this time, but we're doing the mop-up stage, hitting the hot spots right now," LeBlanc said shortly after 8:30 a.m.
He said he expected firefighters to be out at the fire for a few more hours.
