For Johnny Jones' sake, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva should have already publicly announced that he's not retaining Jones as head basketball coach when the season ends in about a week.
Alleva doesn't need more proof.
Jones has fired himself with a 1-15 SEC record this year with two regular season games left in his fifth season. It has come on the heels of last year's late-season collapse and no NCAA tourney bid by a team featuring LSU's second-ever player taken No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft.
A public declaration of Jones' fate, as North Carolina State athletic director Debbie Yow similarly executed when she announced on Feb.
