The College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 13 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans will mark the fourth meeting between Clemson and LSU. And like the two schools' other three meetings, this one will be in the postseason as well. Here is a brief history of the series.
LSU entered the Sugar Bowl at 10-0, having already been named the consensus national champion. ACC champion Clemson was 8-2 and ranked 12th... and a 15-point underdog. If you bet on LSU to cover the spread, you lost. Neither team gained more than 200 yards of offense and the only score in the game came when halfback and future Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon hit Mickey Mangham with a nine-yard touchdown pass.
