As Saturday’s miraculous play in Athens once again proved, no football play is as exciting as the “Hail Mary” pass. It is college football’s equivalent of a boxer losing on points in the waning seconds of the 12th round coming off the ropes to deliver a knockout punch.
All successful Hail Marys are amazing, regardless of whether the University of Alabama or the University of the Incarnate Word delivers them. But how do you determine where Tennessee’s win against Georgia ranks? Well in my opinion, a Hail Mary’s greatness boils down to its overall bearing on the season and the excitement of the game.
