Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reported Saturday afternoon that 30 LSU football players were being forced to quarantine due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being in contact with someone who was positive.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Louisiana health department linking 100 new cases to bars in Tigerland.
Shelly Mullenix, the university’s senior associate athletic trainer, said that LSU’s outbreak is on par with other universities around the nation. Kansas State University put a stop to their workouts for two weeks after 14 athletes tested positive; Clemson confirmed 28 people in its athletic department, including 21 players and two staff members, tested positive; and Texas said 13 players tested positive while another 10 were in quarantine.
