The LSU Tigers are nearing the end of spring practice as they prepare for their upcoming spring game, but that doesn't mean head coach Les Miles has taken a step back on the recruiting trail. Here are all the latest news and rumors surrounding LSU football recruiting:
5-star RB sets LSU visit
Five-star running back Cam Akers (Clinton, MS) reopened his recruitment last month after backing off his commitment to Alabama, and LSU is one of the schools jumping at the opportunity to land him.
"I have heard from the LSU staff a good bit, and Coach (Les) Miles has actually talked with me a few times,” Akers said. "He definitely is showing me a lot of interest. He’s talked with me and told me I can be a key part of the offense.
“Coach Miles feels like I fit the offense really well and they really want me. They feel like they can use me.”
Akers had previously planned to attend Florida State this weekend, but will attend LSU's spring game instead.
He is ranked as the No. 2 running back and No. 19 overall prospect in the country.
Line of other top prospects to attend spring game
Akers is one of an amazing 56 prospects who will be in Baton Rouge for the spring game this weekend - 29 of whom are in-state prospects. Former LSU commit and No. 2 overall prospect Dylan Moses isn't on the list right now, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in Death Valley on Saturday.
LSU still leads for top 2018 CB
Four-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, FL), the top CB prospect in the 2018 class, told 247sports that LSU still leads in his recruitment.
"It's exciting up there," he said. "Great coaching. Big-time players. Championship bound."
Surtain took a visit to Florida State last weekend, who are one of his 24 offers. He also said he's hoping to get offers from Michigan State and Ohio State.
