The LSU Tigers are in the middle of spring practice as they prepare for their upcoming spring game, but that doesn't mean head coach Les Miles has taken a step back on the recruiting trail. Here are all the latest news and rumors surrounding LSU football recruiting:
4-star OL to visit LSU again
Four-star offensive tackle Austin Deculus (Cypress, TX) took a visit to LSU back in February, but plans to make a return trip to Baton Rouge this coming Saturday.
“I’ve always loved LSU,” he said. “There’s just something different about LSU. I have been a fan growing up and seeing Tiger Stadium at the Texas A&M game just kicked it up a few more notches. I have a great relationship with coach Peveto and coach Grimes. Then, my dad’s side of the family is from Mamou, so I have a lot of family and friends around there to make it feel like home.”
The Tigers are one of his five finalists, along with Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama and Georgia. He plans to announced a decision on May 20.
The 6'6", 323-pounder is ranked as the No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 62 overall player in the country.
Tigers showing interest in three-star LB
LSU has recently expressed interest in three-star linebacker Cameron Heil (Baker, LA), as defensive coordinator Dave Aranda had him come and watch a few practicies.
“[Aranda] said he likes my film and what I bring to the field with my physical style of play,” Heil said. “He said I get North-South in a hurry and he needs guys like me that can fill the hole. His system is set up for the linebackers to make a lot of plays.
“I like LSU a lot. It’s my hometown school and they bring in the best players from around the country. An offer from them would be big, real big. I love the defense they run and what he does with his inside backers. Those guys are physical and are getting after it in practice."
Hiel is ranked as the No. 26 inside linebacker and No. 688 overall prospect in the country.
LSU pushing for top 2018 RB
The LSU Tigers are making a strong push to land the top running back in the 2018 class, Zamir White (Laurinburg, NC). LSU is the latest school to offer him a scholarship, and that has put them right at the top of his interest list.
"I was just shocked that it happened so fast," White said. "Coach (Les) Miles said he really wants me. Their running game is so good. That dude (Leonard Fournette) is a crazy monster."
North Carolina, Clemson and Georgia are the other favorites to land White.
