The LSU Tigers already have a commitment from one quarterback out of the Class of 2018 (Zadock Dinkelmann), but offensive coordinator has his sights on another potential prize in MaxPreps Freshman of the Year Trevor Lawrence.
“Coach Cameron wanted me to give him a call and we talked for a while then he offered,” the Cartersville product told 247Sports. “He said he likes quarterbacks like me, and he’s good with guys with my skill set.”
Lawrence led Cartersville to a 12-2 record this past season, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns.
“He is extremely football smart,” Georgia recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell said of Lawrence. “He has a great arm and is very intelligent and comfortable in the pocket. He’s way ahead of his time, and I think he has a chance to be a Top 5-type player in the country.”
Lawrence says a visit is in the works, but a date hasn't been nailed down as of yet. Regardless, he's excited to have the offer to take under consideration.
“Coach Cameron seems like a good coach, and I thought Zach Mettenberger was really good at LSU,” Lawrence said. “I like their offense and how it prepares you for the NFL. They also have good personnel around the quarterback, and Tiger Stadium is a cool place to play.”
