The Loyola men’s soccer team (1-0) started its season with a 2-1 victory over University of Vermont at Loyola Soccer Park Friday night. Sophomore midfielder Ethan Stoneman scored the winning goal in the 68th minute of the game.
Stoneman entered the game as a substitute in the 65th minute and scored shortly after. Loyola Head coach Neil Jones said he sent Stoneman into the game because Loyola was fatigued.
“We just needed some fresh legs at that point,” Jones said following the win. “Some guys were starting to tire. Some guys were not able to perform their defensive or offensive responsibilities … [Stoneman] did a good job and came in and obviously made a huge play to win us a game.
