A last-second breakaway layup by Loyola sophomore guard Sam Galanopoulos capped off Loyola’s stunning win over Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) heavyweight Bradley University Jan. 22.
The Braves entered with a 5-1 record in conference play and were picked to finish second in the MVC preseason poll, but the Loyola women’s basketball team (5-3, 3-1) traveled down to Peoria to knock off Bradley 71-66 in the first matchup of a two-game series.
This was only the Ramblers’ third win in Peoria in the last 28 years. The Braves (9-5, 5-2) had won eight of the last nine matchups between the two schools.
