The Loyola men’s basketball team (18-9, 10-4) outlasted the University of Northern Iowa 82-73 in overtime at a sold-out Gentile Arena Saturday night. With the win, the Ramblers move into sole possession of second place in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) — one game behind league-leading Northern Iowa.
The Panthers’ AJ Green hit a step-back three-pointer in the final seconds of the second half to send it to overtime. In the extra period, the Ramblers outscored Northern Iowa 11-2.
“We had that lead and then AJ hit that shot to go to overtime, and it was just a punch in the gut,” Loyola head coach Porter Moser said.
