Feb. 2 is National Girls and Women in Sports Day, an annual celebration founded through Proclamation 5606 in 1987. Since then, the U.S. Congress honors the contributions women have made to society and sports during the first week of February every year.
Even though I’ve spent all four years of my collegiate career covering athletics, I still feel like I’m unqualified to celebrate this day. I never really played competitive sports growing up and just started learning the in’s and out’s of athletics a few years ago.
Still, that’s four of my 21 years and my entire collegiate career we’re talking about.
