The Loyola men’s basketball team (16-3, 7-1) defeated Southern Illinois University 44-39 in a highly-contested defensive matchup Jan. 27. Senior forward Chris Knight carried the team on offense as the only player to score in the double-digits with 16 points.
Prior to the game, both teams clashed in Gentile Arena for the first match of the series. Loyola took the edge with a 59-47 win. The Salukis looked to snap out of their two-game losing streak two days later at home, as they hosted the Ramblers in Carbondale.
Loyola got the first bucket of the game as sophomore center Jacob Hutson scored a layup off an assist by graduate forward Aher Uguak within the first minute.
