BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Will Zalatoris couldn't resist taking a peek at Matt Fitzpatrick's ball.
He and Fitzpatrick were walking toward their tee shots on the 18th hole of The Country Club. Madness was unspooling all around them. The U.S. Open was hanging in the balance. Thousands of rowdy fans had just spilled into the fairway, and now Boston police officers were trying -- and failing -- to keep the throngs behind the rope line. Fitzpatrick, clinging to a one-shot lead, tried to keep his head down as he navigated the fracas, but he still managed to get swallowed up by the crowd.
